Dear all,

Welcome to this new edition of the solo food newsletter! In this edition you will discover 3 new recipes especially made for the holiday’s season! This year, I created a vegan version of the Greek traditional cookies for Christmas called melomakarona or μελομακάρονα! The original version is also on the site but it worth a vegan version because these biscuits are made traditionally with olive oil!

You will also find a wonderful recipe to make croissants for Christmas that are so tasteful and unique! They are perfumed with gingerbread and have some orange confit! It’s sure that the recipe needs a lot of work but it’s delicious :-) The recipe for the orange confit is really simple on the other hand, and if you make it you will have a nice treat to be eaten alone or a great ingredient to add to your pastries!

Find out also about a new discovery I made regarding a wonderful site that presents more than 80 pairs of shoes in sketches and in real shoes photos by the great shoe designer Manolo Blahnik!

To finish this letter, I added the links to the Christmas and New Year Eve menus, created until now, because there will be new dishes to come until the end of the month, so stay tuned ;-)

I wish you a Merry Christmas and cu soon on social and at www.solofood.fr !

Take care!

Bises,
Dimitra

Christmas biscuits with olive oil and spices (vegan melomakarona)

Christmas biscuits with olive oil and spices (vegan melomakarona)

The melomakarona are Greek traditional cookies for Christmas and the New Year! They are made traditionally with honey but in this version they are vegan, as I replaced honey with coconut syrup (!), and it works! Furthermore, this recipe produces the best melomakarona there is because they keep their shortbread texture even if they are soaked into syrup :-) The process is really simple and straightforward and that’s why I included this recipe in the section “For Beginners”!

orange confit

Orange confit

The orange confit is simply delicious in this recipe that is inspired by the sweet lemon confit created by the great French chef Alain Ducasse! You can eat it alone with some of its syrup and have a nice vegan treat or add it to your pastries as an ingredient! It’s very good and easy to make!

Croissants for Christmas

Croissants for Christmas

These croissants are small rolls with a cream filling perfumed with gingerbread and have orange confit! They are really good and the croissant dough is very tasteful! The cream is also perfumed with Grand Marnier, and I did not use a commercial mix of spices for the gingerbread flavor as I thought that it might be difficult to be found abroad! I created my own mix of spices and it’s really good! So you have no excuse not to make these croissants! The original recipe comes for the great French Pastry Chef Christophe Michalak when he was Head Pastry Chef at the Plaza Athénée hotel in Paris! So it’s a unique and luxurious recipe that we all worth for Christmas or for everyday! Take the time to make these croissants, it’s sure that they have a lot of work but the recipe is well explained and when we are organized it’s a piece of cake! Trust me on this!

Christmas Menus

Christmas Menus

Have a look at Christmas menus for this year and the last year and make your choice! There are for every budget and taste! The “Cinderella” menu is rather easy without the dessert that requires a bit of technique! I have not yet included the exceptional lamb by the Great French Chef Paul Bocuse but I add it here as a reminder!
